African Vision Malawi and designer Gabrielle Evans have created a unique, inspiring and thought provoking display for this years Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The design incorporates an innovative collection of events mirrors to produce a display to highlight the issues of monocropping faced by Malawian farmers and their families. Gabrielle approached our mirror experts here at Glass Installations for their help and advice to put her design into reality.
How and Why Were Mirrors Used?
The garden design is centered around an “infinity mirror” concept. The cube is lined with mirrors and incorporates port holes which are used for viewing the corn crops planted within. This gives the illusion of an endless field of corn, but on reflection, is this monocropping really such a good thing? Can food security be achieved by relying on a single crop? Various other crops are planted around the illusion to suggest alternatives. The true message of this display is to promote permaculture to promote food security and help combat famine.

Incorporating mirrors within a design can result in fascinating effects, perfect for event displays where impact and effect are paramount! The African Vision Malawi display can be seen at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show which will run from 30th June to 5th July 2015.
