Once again Glass Installations are proud to have been working with McLaughlin and Harvey, this time on Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. The iconic landmark has undergone a major redevelopment, part of which includes a new state of the art fitness centre. Our installation teams have been hard at work installing a huge range of our specialist dance and fitness mirrors. Also installed were backlit mirrors fitted onto an orange back painted glass base.
Sports Centre Redevelopment
Kelvin Hall opened as an exhibition centre in 1927 and was used for musical performances before becoming a sports arena and home to Glasgow’s Museum of Transport.
The £35m redevelopment is the result of a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, the University of Glasgow and the National Library of Scotland. The historic venue has been transformed into an exciting new centre of cultural excellence providing collections’ storage, teaching and research, alongside a state-of-the-art Glasgow Club health and fitness centre. Glasgow Club is a state of the art health and fitness centre incorporating an eight court multi-purpose sports hall, four court gymnastics/martial arts hall, three fitness studios and the largest fitness gym in the city at over 1,000m2.
Dance, Gym and Backlit Mirrors with Back Painted Glass
We were approached by McLaughlin and Harvey to install a very different arrangement of backlit mirrors fitted with orange back painted glass behind them. This created an unusual but effective display which complemented the orange theme throughout the new sports centre.
Glass Installations also installed our specialist Image 6 Dance Mirrors into two separate dance studios, in total over 31m of mirrors were fitted across both studios! The high spec gym also had a further 13.9m of Image 6 Mirrors installed by our experience installation team.
Kelvin Hall is due to be opened to the public in August this year.
