Why are ballet barres so important to a dancers training schedule?
Improving Strength & stability
Ballet barres are key to a dancers strength and stability. By improving strength at the barre and it will improve a dancers strength in their overall technique. No dancer can expect to do all the showy and virtuoso ballet moves if the basic technique is not in place. The ballet barre is the primary place to refine a dancers strength.
With so much practice on the ballet bar it is easy to forget it’ s significance, or even realize its importance. It is an essential tool when first learning foot placement technique, and also for beginning dancers first beginning on pointe, who have not yet developed the strength and technique needed for pointe work.
Ongoing Barre Training
Barre work often comprises a significant portion of the beginning of a dancer’s class. The barre continues to be an important tool in all levels of ballet. Barre work helps dancers prepare for partnering, with the barre simulating the support of a real partner.
